Servant Songs (Isaiah 42:1-9)
In the Servant Songs of Isaiah, we hear a haunting and hope-filled melody—whispers of a figure who would come to bear our sorrows, bring justice without violence, restore what is broken, and shine light to the nations. These ancient poems, spoken into a season of longing and exile, point beyond themselves to the One who would fulfill them completely: Jesus Christ, the true Servant-King.
As we enter the season of Advent—a time shaped by waiting, longing, and holy anticipation—the Servant Songs help us see that God’s promise has never been absent or silent. They remind us that waiting is not wasted time but expectant preparation, tuning our hearts to recognize Christ when He arrives.
In Christ’s birth we see the Servant’s humility; in His ministry we see the Servant’s compassion; in His cross we see the Servant’s sacrifice; and in His resurrection we see the Servant’s triumph. Advent invites us once again to lean forward in hope, trusting that the same God who kept His promises then is faithful still. The Servant has come—and He is coming again.
