Spiritual Formation

The shaping of our hearts and lives by God’s word and Spirit

SPIRITUAL FORMATION

As part of discipleship, spiritual formation engages the whole person in a life-shaping encounter with God’s revelation in Christ and his inspired word—the Bible. Knowing God’s Story, learning and embracing the convictions and practices that flow from that Story into our lives, is our goal as we invite you into formation-based study. These classes, seminars and other gatherings are for everyone who wants to grow to maturity in Christ!

CORE CLASSES

Cornerstone’s approach to spiritual formation is built on four central themes (cores) shaped by Scripture: story, doctrine, spirituality, and leadership. These four core courses are an invitation to grow deeper in your faith.

Dates for the 2023 calendar haven't been released so stay tuned! If you are interested in any of these classes, please contact Bill Martin.

CORE STORY

The Bible is a story in four movements; Creation, Fall, Redemption, and Consummation. The unfolding of this story is mixed with tense themes and beautiful contours that help us understand the continuity of God’s grand design as we move through the Old and New Testament.

CORE DOCTRINE

As a confessional church, Cornerstone holds to historic convictions based on the Bible’s authoritative revelation concerning God and man. This six-week course will dive into doctrinal truths about the persons of God and man as Creator / creature and explore how this lived-out worldview can shape our modern lives.

CORE SPIRITUALITY

The Bible isn’t just a handbook for better living, it is a life-shaping invitation to learn “the unforced rhythms of grace.” Spiritual reading is a gift if, as Eugene Peterson says, “the words are assimilated, taken into the soul — eaten, chewed, gnawed, received in unhurried delight.” These six-weeks are designed to help you develop spiritual habits and learn new paths of devotion and delight in God.

CORE LEADERSHIP

CORE LEADERSHIP: All are invited to attend this class but it is required of those who desire to lead at Cornerstone. This 12-week course seeks to develop leaders who are conversant in Reformed theological categories, especially Scripture and soteriology. With a heavy workload consisting of reading, homework, and an exam it is not recommended for new believers, yet open to all who want to deepen their understanding and biblical competence.  Contact Bill Martin to sign up!

BIBLE STUDY

In Bible Studies we aim for head and heart connection as we dive in deep to the teaching of God’s word and how we live in light of these truths. We seek to not only grow in knowing God, but in friendship with one another.

MEN'S BIBLE STUDIES

We meet every Wednesday morning from 9:30-11am, typically studying what the women's ministry Bible study is doing each week.  We follow the church calendar and meet from September - November and January - April and then break for seasons of rest during the summer and late fall.

WOMEN'S BIBLE STUDIES

We offer Bible studies in two main seasons of the year: Fall (Sept to Nov) and Winter (Jan - April) on Wednesday mornings @ 9:30 am and Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm. These groups are an excellent place to connect for those who are new to Bible study as well as those seasoned learners.  We welcome women from every age and stage of life.  The beauty of our differences is what unites us in Christ while we seek to learn from and encourage one another. Childcare is offered on Wednesday mornings. Sign up required to reserve your child’s spot.

LIFE ON LIFE MISSIONAL DISCIPLESHIP

Life-on-life missional discipleship is laboring in the lives of a few with the intention of imparting one’s life, God’s Word and the gospel in such a way as to see them become mature and equipped followers of Christ, committed to doing the same in the lives of others. Life-on-Life Missional Discipleship is a weekly commitment over the course of 3 years which mimics the way of Jesus & his disciples. Groups are formed yearly through a rigorous training process.
